Understanding Billing Protection
In today’s digital world, staying connected is essential, and managing your data usage is a big part of that. However, we understand that data overages can sometimes lead to unexpected costs. That’s why we’re excited to introduce Billing Protection for data overages—a feature designed like a safety net for your wallet, helping you prevent unexpected overages and mistakes on your bill. Here’s a guide to understanding what it is, and how to set it up!
What is Billing Protection?
Billing Protection is a feature that helps protect you from extra charges if you use more data than your plan allows. Instead of facing surprise fees for going over your data limit, Billing Protection alerts you when you’re at a set limit close to your data threshold. This allows you to make the decision to:
Change your settings to reduce data consumption
Up your billing plan to cover for those extra photos
Monitor your account to ensure your overages are within your budget
or, suspend your cameras until you’re at the end of your billing cycle
How Does it Work?
Pre-paid Plans
For our pre-paid plan users, this is as simple as a flick of a switch.
Select the menu in the top left-hand corner of your Barn Owl HQ account.
Choose, “Account Alerts”.
Toggle the button green to your preferred notification method. (Please note that text message notifications are $0.03 per text message.)
Note: Your date threshold will automatically be set the pre-paid data amount in your billing plan.
Flex Plans
For Flex Plans, there are some additional steps that need to be completed, which include setting the amount you don’t want to exceed for the month. See the steps below:
Select the menu located in the upper left-hand corner of your Barn Owl HQ account.
Select “Account & Billing”
Choose the “Billing” tab
Under, “Monthly Budget Alert”, set the limit you don’t want to go over. Example: $25.00 will notify me when I’m close to my $25.00 data limit.
Select the menu located in the upper left-hand corner of your Barn Owl HQ account.
Select “Account Alerts”.
Toggle the button green to your preferred notification method. (Please note that text message notifications are $0.03 per text message.)
For Classic Plans
The original classic plans do not have the available feature for billing protection. We do offer a similar billing plan to the Classic Basic Plan, which is the new Flex Plan. You can change plans in the following way:
Select the menu located in the upper left-hand corner of your Barn Owl HQ account.
Select, “Account & Billing”
Select the “Billing” tab.
Click on the pencil icon located next to Billing Plan.
Select from our pre-paid billing plans, or choose Flex, which is similar to the original Classic Basic Plan
