Spring & Summer Redeployment GuideUpdated 10 days ago
Whether you’re unboxing your cameras from storage for spring and summer activities, or freshening your unit up from a long winter of monitoring, we recommend the following steps to keep your system in good working order.
Onsite Maintenance:
- Cables & Connectors
- Confirm that your wires are still in good working order and that there are no signs of damage or loose connections.
- Fully Charge Solar Panel:
- If possible, you should attempt to charge your solar panels. You can do this with the AC or USB adapters.
- Solar Panel Positioning:
- From high winds to snow loading, there is a chance that your solar panels may have shifted a bit during the winter months. You'll want to confirm that your solar panels are positioned and optimized for maximum sun exposure.
- Batteries and Battery Compartment:
- Check the battery compartment for any kind of wear, corrosion, or battery leaks.
- Install a new set of batteries. If your cameras have been inactive for several months and batteries were left in the battery compartment, we’d recommend installing a new set of batteries.
- Clean Lens:
- Lenses can get dirty, resulting in reduced image quality. While conducting system checks, take a moment to clean your camera lens with a clean cloth, towel, or rag.
- Perform a Test Photo
- Once your camera is deployed, perform a Test Photo on-site to ensure your camera is responding. If the Test Photo does not transmit, or you receive an error, we recommend completing a Manual Reset to ensure your Barn Owl camera has a stable network connection. Click the following link for steps on how to perform a Test Photo, as well as how to perform a reset.
Systems Check:
- Configure Your Camera Settings:
- Within your Barn Owl HQ account, double-check that all camera settings are configured correctly including Motion and Periodic Triggers so that you do not miss anything.
- Configure Your Alert Settings:
- Within your Barn Owl HQ account, double-check that your alerts are configured including Push Notifications.
